Texas A&M is looking to “break the bank” to hire Virginia Tech Buzz Williams after firing Billy Kennedy on Friday, a source told ZAGSBLOG.

“I think they break the bank for him,” the source said. “They wouldn’t have fired Kennedy if not.”

Williams, 46, is a Greenville, Texas native and former A&M assistant under Billy Gillispie from 2004-06.

“I’ve been hearing Buzz for three weeks,” the source said.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Kennedy’s contract runs through 2021 and pays him nearly $2.5 million annually.

“I’ve never commented on jobs,” Williams told reporters this week at the ACC Tournament. “I don’t think that’s appropriate by our kids … I can’t control what people say. I’ve got to make sure I’m doing my best with these guys.”

John Calipari got some good news in the middle of the SEC Tournament.

Keion Brooks, the 6-foot-7 small forward from La Lumiere (IN) School, announced his commitment to the Wildcats Friday night.

“Next season I’ll be attending the University of Kentucky,” he told Evan Daniels of 247Sports.com at his announcement.

“I think at the end of the day, it just came down to the relationship that I’ve built with Coach Cal. He’s always told me he can put me in a position to where I can reach and achieve my goals. When I sat down and talked to him for the last time, I felt very comfortable in making my decision to go to Kentucky.”
