  • Isaiah Williams, a 6-foot-7 wing from Newark, has committed to Iona but will spend at least one year at the State College of Florida-Manatee.

    Williams previously committed to Iona and then left Marshall this past year after he was deemed to be “not in good academic standing,” a source told SNY.tv.

    “Isaiah will be a tremendous addition for the Gaels,” Florida-Manatee coach Brock Erickson told SNY.tv. “His length and ability to stroke the 3 are a perfect fit for coach [Tim] Cluess‘ system. 

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Dominic Cheek got a phone call at around 9 o’clock Thursday morning asking if he was available to come work out for the Knicks.

    A spot had opened up because former Georgetown forward Hollis Thompson is sidelined with a sports hernia. Thompson attended the Knicks work out but did not compete.

    So Cheek, a former McDonald’s All-American under Hall of Famer Bob Hurley at St. Anthony, got the call.

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Kim English is no longer a Missouri Tiger but he has supreme confidence in his old team.

    “I can say this now that I’m gone but I expect them to win a national championship without a doubt,” the 6-foot-6 English said following a workout Thursday with the Knicks.

    “We should’ve at least went to the Final Four this past year and it definitely left a sour taste in a lot of guys’ mouth out there, but they should win a national championship. They’re the best team in the nation heading into next season.”

    Stanley Johnson, one of the top small forwards in the Class of 2014, is planning visits to Pac-12 schools Arizona and Oregon.

    “August 6 I’m taking a visit to Arizona and then hopefully I’ll make it to Oregon,” the 6-foot-6, 230-pound Johnson said from the U.S. U17 practices in Colorado Springs, Colo.

    “After that I hope I can get in to [see] other schools later in the year.”

    A shoulder injury has knocked Rondae Jefferson off the USA U17 team that will compete in Lithuania for the U17 World Championship.

    “Rondae Jefferson getting hurt, I think he definitely would’ve made the team and would’ve been with us,” Team USA assistant Mike Jones, the head coach at DeMatha Catholic, told SNY.tv Wednesday after the roster was finalized at 12 players.
