Hinds Leads Mount Vernon to Record 9th State Title
West Virginia-bound guard Jabarie Hinds posted 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Mount Vernon to its record-ninth New York State state championship, 62-51, over Jamestown Sunday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
“I played well,” Hinds said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, though.”
“Jabarie dominated the flow of the game with five steals, earning MVP honors,” said Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino.
Mount Vernon was tied with Bridgehampton before the game with eight state crowns.
The Knights (21-5) are now all alone with nine.
Khalid Samuels scored 16 points for Mount Vernon and joined Hinds on the all-tournament team.
Next up is a date with Public Schools Athletic League champ Boys & Girls on Saturday at the Times Union Center in Albany in the Class AA State Federation semifinals.
Boys & Girls won back-to-back PSAL titles by beating Lincoln, 62-55, March 13 at Madison Square Garden.
That game will feature a showdown of Big East-bound guards in Hinds and Rutgers signee Mike Taylor of Boys & Girls.
