    (AP) — Joakim Noah’s disappointing Knicks career is over after just two seasons.

    Unable to find a trade, the Knicks waived Noah, a 33-year-old center, on Saturday with two years and $37.8 million remaining on his contract.

    Noah had been away from the team since clashing with the former coach Jeff Hornacek last season, when he appeared in only seven games. The Knicks had already decided he would not rejoin the club under their new coach, David Fizdale, but they were hoping they could find a trade to get something back for him without having to cut him.

    Noah signed with his hometown team in July 2016 and drew a loud ovation in his first appearance at Madison Square Garden, where he was introduced as being from Hell’s Kitchen, a Manhattan neighborhood not far from the Garden, rather than from the University of Florida, the team he helped win two N.C.A.A. championships.

    The Chicago Bulls selected him with the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft. He had great years with the Bulls, highlighted by being voted defensive player of the year and first-team All-N.B.A. in 2014.

    TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Joakim Noah was given a platform during Knicks Media Day on Monday to sound off on some of his beliefs about the state of America.

    And the Knicks’ center didn’t hold back.

    Noah said it’s too easy to get guns in this country, and that politicians like President Donald Trump should invest more time and resources into taking care of the youth in America’s cities.

    “I would make it a lot harder to get guns, No. 1,” Noah said. “I mean, kids have access to guns in this country and we don’t even talk about it. Kids are killing each other at alarming rates and it’s still so easy to buy guns, to buy bullets. We point fingers whenever we can. It’s just so easy to buy a gun in this country, so I would start with that.”

    If Brooklyn native Taj Gibson gets his wish, the world champion Chicago Cubs won’t be the only ones getting an ovation in the Windy City on Friday.

    Gibson believes Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah should get such a reception when they return to Chicago with the Knicks (8 p.m. ESPN).

    “The crowd should give them a good standing ovation,” Gibson told the Chicago Tribune. “They gave Chicago a lot of blood, sweat and tears.”

    This will be the only appearance for Rose, the former No. 1 overall pick of the Bulls, in Chicago this year, while the Bulls come to Madison Square Garden twice.

    WEST POINT, N.Y. –– The Knicks’ decision to hold training camp at West Point for a third straight year has inspired split opinions within the team on matters related to current events.

    Veteran Joakim Noah came out Friday and announced he had skipped a team dinner with Cadets on Thursday night because he’s opposed to war, while rookie Marshall Plumlee, a member of the Army reserves, told me he thinks it was a great idea to hold camp at West Point.

    “It’s hard for me a little bit,” Noah said Friday afternoon, according to Newsday. “I have a lot of respect for the kids who are out here fighting. But it’s hard for me to understand why we have to go to war, why kids have to kill kids around the world? So I have mixed feelings about being here.

    “I’m very proud of this country. I love America, but I just don’t understand kids killing kids around the world.”

    WEST POINT, N.Y. — Joakim Noah isn’t afraid to mix it up with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers — and Carmelo Anthony thinks that’s exactly what the Knicks will need to compete with the NBA champions.

    Coincidentally enough, the Knicks will open the regular season in Cleveland on Oct. 25 when the Cavs will be feted with their NBA championship rings.

    “You ain’t got to worry about that with Joakim, I mean he gonna bring it,” Anthony said Wednesday after the first day of training camp at West Point, which was also Noah’s first practice with the team after he became the father of a baby girl on Tuesday.

    “If you’re not on his team, you’re the enemy and I think with that mentality, that’s going to kind of trickle down to everyone else.”
