Stanford has landed a late, but important addition in Yale transfer Nick Townsend, he told ZAGSBLOG.
Townsend, who is repped by agent Adam Godes with ADS sports, is one of the many players in America currently seeking a fifth year of eligibility following the recent lawsuits granting members of the class of 2022 an additional year of eligibility.
A 6-foot-7 forward originally from New York, Townsend spent four seasons with the Bulldogs, appearing in 104 games and averaging an accumulative 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game throughout his career in New Haven.
“I feel like it was a really great fit all around,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “I felt a strong connection with their coaching staff and am excited to do everything I can to help the team. I am looking forward to getting to work with my teammates and hope to bring my versatility, toughness, and playmaking.”
Townsend is fresh off the best season of his college career, where he helped lead Yale to an Ivy League regular season title before losing in the conference’s title game to Penn. Over the course of 30 games last season, the newest Stanford Cardinal averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, shooting 51.1% from the field.
Coming off his strong senior season, Townsend played for the Philadelphia 76ers in this past summer’s NBA Summer League, averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Inching closing to the 2026-27 season, Townsend is set to join a rising Stanford program led by Kyle Smith, who continuous outperforms expectations at jobs with a disadvantage in spending around the country.
Townsend is Stanford’s eighth addition of the offseason and its third in the transfer portal.
Stanford’s other seven additions include four-star forward Aziz Olajuwon (son of Hakeem), four-star guard Elias Obenyah, four-star guard Julius Price, four-star guard Isaiah Rogers, four-star forward Drew Anderson, Delaware transfer Christian Bliss and Seattle transfer Austin Maurer.
