Four-star center Akol Nyok has committed to Marquette, On3’s Joe Tipton reported on Friday.
Nyok, a 7-foot-1 senior from Columbus HS (FL), chose the Golden Eagles over Virginia Tech, Maryland and Michigan State, among others.
Originally from South Sudan, Nyok began his high school career at Glenelg Country Day School (MD) before transferring to the prestigious Columbus program in Miami.
He took two official visits this over the last few months, visiting Marquette in July and Virginia Tech in early September, before ultimately committing to play for Shaka Smart and the Golden Eagles.
With elite length and versatility, Nyok is an elite rim protector and off-ball defender, who’s able to stretch the floor on offense and defense. He also is one of the best pure shot blockers in his class, but is continuing making strides towards bettering his offensive skillset.
Still with a lot of untapped potential, Nyok didn’t begin his playing career until 2023 after he moved to the United States and enrolled in high school in Maryland.
Nyok is Smart and Marquette’s first splash in recruiting in the class of 2027, with the South Sudan product being ranked as the No. 101 overall prospect in the class of 2027.
