Projecting as one of the top young players on the 3SSB circuit, Indiana Elite Class of 2029 combo guard Drew Cabana was offered by Purdue on Monday.
A three-level scoring source with a rarefied, beyond his years feel for the game, Cabana is coming off performances of 28 points during Indiana Elite‘s 73-57 victory over Team Loaded and 20 points during a thorough 75-51 throttling over the Atlanta Celtics.
“It’s almost like a start to a dream come true, getting an offer from (Purdue),” said Cabana, who has helped spearhead 15U Indiana Elite to a 13-0 record on the 3SSB Circuit.
“I feel like with the players they’ve had there and developed over the years, I really fit into their style of play.”
Cabana authored an instant impact freshman season at Chelsea HS (MI), averaging 22 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Possessing unique positional size at 6-foot-5 and showing considerable 3-point range during the recent Basketball Coaches of Michigan (BCAM) event, Cabana garnered the attention of Rutgers.
On June 15th, he was offered by the Scarlet Knights.
“Coach Smoke (assistant coach Marlon Williamson), he has a lot of ties to the Michigan area and he saw me at the BCAM,” Cabana said.
“Rutgers offered me a couple of days later. The offer is meaningful because like with Purdue, they like my game style and I think I really fit into how they play.”
Cabana said he’s excited about the prospect of visiting Rutgers’ campus in the near future.
Ohio and Bowling Green were among the first offers for Cabana, who is a younger rising sophomore at 15 years old.
“I think whatever the team needs me to do (on Indiana Elite), I can fill that,” said Cabana.
“Rebounding, scoring, getting crucial stops defensively. Anything like that. A lot of my teammates have been playing together for several years now, so we have the chemistry really established.”
As a sound play-creator with an adeptness of feel for picking his spots offensively, Cabana fittingly plays like a coach’s son. His mother, Andrea Cabana, now coaches him at Chelsea, where she’s one of the few women head coaches in the boys side in the state of Michigan.
