During a DMV Live event which featured a torrent of talent, Class of 2027 guard RJ Moore registered his presence.
A floor spacer with knockdown shooting aptitude and cerebral feel for the game, Moore scored a game-best 22 points to go with nine rebounds in Ambassador Christian (NC)’s 73-65 victory over DeMatha HS on Saturday.
It was a long straight away 3 from Moore with five minutes remaining which broke a 49-49 deadlock, allowing Ambassador to seize control.
Hoping to have his decision finalized prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year, Moore has been hearing from Washington, Utah, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Georgetown, Virginia and others.
Alabama and Notre Dame have recently entered Moore’s recruitment.
The son of current NC A & T assistant coach Ricky Moore, RJ Moore is a basketball old soul.
His earliest memories stem from long days at gyms throughout Connecticut, as his father was then an assistant coach at UConn.
Known for his defensive prowess, as a guard who neutralized several high scoring threats in his Huskies heyday, Ricky Moore won a national championship as both a player and an assistant coach at UConn.
“I remember a little bit from that time,” Moore said.”I definitely remember moments of the (2014) national championship team with Shabazz Napier. It was crazy seeing them win it. It was definitely a surreal moment.”
Long, lanky and soaring above the rim gracefully, Moore is being recruited primarily as an off guard.
“I think if there is an underrated aspect of my game, its my ability to rebound,” said Moore.
“I also think with my ability to see the floor and with reads, I just have a feel for the game.”

“I hear from (assistant) coach Raphael Chillious the most. He’s known me for a long time. He’s definitely been a great guy to have in my corner. He’s always sending me motivational texts. He actually coached with my Dad on the same staff at UConn.”
Georgetown
“They’ve been recruiting me really since June 15th. They think my style of play can help them. They haven’t pulled the trigger yet (and offered), so we’ll see how that goes.”
Vanderbilt
“I’ve been hearing a lot from coach (Joel) Justice and (director of recruiting) (Chad) Myers. They just really like how I play. Being able to shoot the ball, score the ball. I haven’t visited yet. I think I might take an official.”
Notre Dame
“They are basically saying a lot of the important things, a lot of the same things. That my ability to score it and shoot it, it really plays into their style.”
Florida State
“They offered a little while ago. At the end of last season, they offered right there on the spot. They like big guards. Being able to flow into their offense, they think I can be a guy who can come in right away and contribute.”
