In a testament to the strength of high school basketball in New York and New Jersey, six teams from the two states are ranked in the MaxPreps High School Basketball rankings, with Roselle (NJ) Catholic at No. 1 in the land.

Under coach Dave Boff, the Lions are the defending New Jersey Tournament of Champions winners and feature North Carolina-bound point guard Simeon Wilcher, Duke-bound wing Mackenzie Mgbako, and Arizona State commit Akil Watson.

Among other national events, Roselle Catholic will play in the Hoopfest in Paradise in the Bahamas Dec. 16-17 against No. 2 Duncanville and Sunrise Christian, which plays in the loaded National Interscholastic Basketball Conference.

“Tremendous opportunity for us to take part in this inaugural Hoopfest in Paradise event in the Bahamas,” Boff said. “These types of events are special opportunities for our program and we are looking forward to it.”

Camden is ranked No. 6 and features D.J. Wagner, the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Class of 2023, and Kentucky -bound big man Aaron Bradshaw.

Cardinal Hayes in The Bronx, which features Class of 2024 shooting guard Ian Jackson, is No. 9.

UConn commit Jayden Ross and Long Island Lutheran, a new member of the NIBC, are No. 12.

Arcbhishop Stepinac and Class of 2024 point guard Boogie Fland are No. 18.

Christ the King, which features St. John’s commit Brandon Gardner, is No. 20.
