The NABC and the WBCA have recommended that the NCAA dead period be pushed back until July 31.

An official decision is expected later this month. The dead period currently runs through June 30.

Assuming the dead period is moved to July 31, Peach Jam, the crown jewel of the recruiting period, wouldn’t happen in July.

The Peach Jam, the finals of the Nike EYBL circuit, had been scheduled for July 8-12 in North Augusta, S.C.

This would be the second time the recruiting dead period has been pushed back. On April 1, the recruiting dead period was pushed back to May 31.

“As time has gone on and more and more information has been gained, it’s clear that we need to look at the future opportunities to create alternative events going forward in August, September and October possibly,” TCU coach Jamie Dixon told Andy Katz of the NCAA. “Those being scholastic and non-scholastic, so we love recruiting in July. We were looking forward to the Academies in June at the four different sites, but we have to adjust.”

He added: “I have great hope that we’ll get to see the kids and that the kids will be seen.”

The NCAA announced the recommendation in a statement Tuesday:

“Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the board of directors for the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association executive committee have recommended an extension of the current recruiting dead period through July 31.

“The current temporary period extends through May 31, and the Division I Council later this month will review the recommendation from the NABC and WBCA and consider possible further adjustments to the recruiting calendar.”
