Oklahoma State opted to elevate assistant Mike Boynton to head coach to replace Brad Underwood.

Following Oklahoma State’s loss to Michigan in the NCAA Tournament, Underwood departed to take the Illinois job.

“We’re excited to announce Mike Boynton as our new basketball coach,” the school announced on Twitter. “Boynton is one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the business.”

Former OSU standout Doug Gottlieb had openly campaigned for the job, but will instead remain at FSI and Fox Sports Radio.

The Cowboys finished 20-13, losing their last four games of the season, including to Michigan.

Sophomore guard Jawun Evans then declared for the NBA Draft.
