150605-irving-758Kyrie Irving will miss the remainder of the NBA Finals with a fractured left kneecap suffered in overtime of Game 1 on Thursday and will undergo season-ending surgery in the coming days at the Cleveland Clinic by Cavaliers head team physician Dr. Richard Parker, the team announced Friday.

The news confirmed an earlier report by SNY.tv that Irving’s injury was “serious” and he was done for the season.

The team said the recovery time for the former Duke and Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick star is projected to be three to four months and his status will be updated as appropriate.

The Cavs had been relying on several Jersey Boys who played at St. Benedict’s and St. Patrick to support LeBron James. Now they are less one.

The Cavs, who trail the Golden State Warriors 1-0 in the Finals, are already without forward Kevin Love, who suffered a separated shoulder in the Boston series, and Anderson Varejao.
