  • P.J. Dozier Meets With Pitino, Will Take Official to Louisville

Five-star combo guard P.J. Dozier will take an official visit to Louisville the weekend of Oct. 30 following an in-home visit Wednesday with head coach Rick Pitino and assistant Kenny Johnson.

Louisville hosts Florida State in football Oct. 30.

“The visit went extremely well,” Perry Dozier Sr. told SNY.tv Thursday. “Coach came in and he was very warm and just got right to the point. We talked; it a was a great visit.”

Louisville has zeroed in on the 6-foot-7 Dozier to join Brewster (N.H.) Academy guard Donovan Mitchell in its backcourt beginning in 2015 now that Antonio Blakeney has decommitted. (Blakeney met Wednesday night with Kentucky’s John Calipari and Kenny Payne.)

“It was pretty clear, coming in the backcourt and playing with Mitchell,” Perry said. “He’s a pretty good friend with P.J. They played together at the Reebok Camp so that’s a big plus, but he told P.J. he’s his point guard and that’s what he wants him to do, is run the ballclub.”

Dozier is listed as a shooting guard and Mitchell is a two transitioning to a one, but Perry said both guards could be interchangeable in the Louisville backcourt.

“They both are interchangeable, they play alongside of each other,” Perry said. “He can play with two point guards. Who wouldn’t want to do that, especially with the height of one of them is 6-7.”

Louisville stepped up its recruitment of Dozier after the Blakeney decommitment, but Perry said that was not an issue for them.

“This is a business and we wouldn’t even be talking to Coach [Pitino] if we didn’t think it was a good fit for P.J.,” Perry said. “Everybody gotta make their decision on what’s the best home for them and we think that’s a good place for P.J. and that’s why we’re talking to them. All that didn’t tmake a difference. We’re clear with the coaching staff on how things are done. We don’t even spend time discussing [Blakeney], that’s under the water.”

Dozier will also visit Michigan (Sept. 26), North Carolina (Oct. 3), Georgetown (Oct. 17) and South Carolina (Oct. 24) .

“We leave tomorrow to go to Michigan,” Perry said.
