    NEW YORK – Kim Clijsters lofted a beautiful backhand topspin lob high over the head of the 6-foot-1 Venus Williams as Williams rushed the net late in the third set of their U.S. Open semifinal.

    Williams thought about trying an overhead, but she couldn’t quite reach it and could only watch helplessly as the ball landed in and spun away from her.

    And with that, No. 2 Clijsters broke No. 3 Williams and then closed the match out on her own serve with a backhand winner down the line to complete a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 come-from-behind victory in two hours, 23 minutes inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.
