    • NBA, Old Knicks

    NEW YORK — Knicks president Donnie Walsh said it is “logical” that Allen Iverson would return to his first NBA team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

    “When Philadelphia opened up, I thought that was a logical place for him to go,” Walsh said before the Knicks faced the Phoenix Suns Tuesday at MSG.

    The AP reported that the Sixers offered a one-year, non-guaranteed contract to Iverson on Tuesday.

    The Knicks considered signing Iverson after he parted ways with Memphis and those close to the 10-time All-Star said he would’ve liked to come to New York.

    Florida, Florida International, Georgetown, Oklahoma, Texas

    Rakeem Christmas has cut his list to five schools from eight.

    Florida International, Florida, Georgetown, Oklahoma and Texas are still in the running for the No. 1 center and No. 4 overall prospect in the Class of 2011.

    Baylor, Villanova, Indiana and Ohio State were cut from the old list, and Florida International, coached by Isiah Thomas, was added.

    “Since our last announcement, certain schools have made a valiant effort regarding Rakeem’s recruitment. Stronger bonds have been established with a few programs and their staff. Our current list reflects that,” said Amira Hamid, Christmas’ aunt and legal guardian. “Once we know it’s right for Rakeem and once he feels 100 percent confident about the situation, everyone else will know. This process has been lengthy but we are in no rush to meet a timeline. We’re pleased with the current schools we are considering and looking forward to watching them play this season.”

    Duke, Villanova

    A couple of centers on Top 10 teams are on the move.

    Duke freshman center Mason Plumlee returned to practice Monday from a broken left wrist, while Villanova center Mouphtaou Yarou is reportedly out for the season with a viral infection.

    The 6-foot-10 Plumlee, the younger brother of sophomore forward Miles Plumlee, will dress Wednesday night against Wisconsin and could potentially play if there are no further complications with the wrist.

    “We’re still missing one of our kids,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said last week in New York, where his team beat UConn to win the Preseason NIT at MSG. “Mason Plumlee, who I think will be a big addition to our team.”
