Florida guard Denzel Aberdeen has been granted a temporary restraining order which will also grant him a fifth year of college eligibility, the school announced.
“We’re pleased with today’s ruling, and we’re especially happy for Denzel,” Florida head coach Todd Golden said in a press release Tuesday.
Aberdeen, who was a member of Florida’s national championship team in 2024, spent his senior season at Kentucky and averaged 13.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the Wildcats last season.
The Orlando native’s eligibility case was an interesting one because although he didn’t redshirt his freshman season while appearing in 12 games for the Gators, Aberdeen argued it should essentially serve as a redshirted season and he should be granted eligibility.
As a member of the high school class of 2022, Aberdeen is one of the hundreds of players from the class that will now be immediately eligible for a fifth season of college basketball.
Aberdeen will now be set to play his fourth season for the Gators, who are widely expected to be ranked as the No. 1 team in the country in the preseason top 25.
