By Adam Zagoria on November 08, 2011, 1:51PM

Adonis Filer, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound point guard from Hammond (Ind.), has verbally committed to Clemson and is expected to sign Wednesday.

“Yeah, I did,” Filer, the Rivals No. 24 point guard in the Class of 2012, told SNY.tv by phone. “That seemed like the right school for me. My family talked about it and it seemed it was the right fit.”

Filer, who becomes the fifth 2012 commit for coach Brad Brownell’s club, also considered Utah, Purdue and Tennessee and said he expects to help Clemson right away.

“I’m more of a push-it type of point guard, I push it all the time,” he said. “I get it out, get my team involved.” (more…)

Malcolm Gilbert Trims List to 6

By Adam Zagoria on August 08, 2010, 5:48PM

Malcolm Gilbert has cut his list to six schools.

The 6-foot-11 rising senior center out of Academy of the New Church now lists Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Wake Forest, Virginia and Clemson.

Gilbert has already taken unofficials to Virginia, Ohio State, Pitt and Duke and plans to visit Virginia Tech next, possibly next weekend.

“I don’t have the exact date,” he said.

Asked if he had a favorite, Gilbert said, “Pitt.”

“He’s intriguing because of his upside,” East Coach Elite coach Terrell Myers said in June. “What people don’t understand is, they see 6-11, they look at him as an offensive player. He’s not an offensive player, he’s a defensive player.

“He can score the ball but I don’t think you’re going to throw it in and get Dwight Howard or Hakeem Olajuwon. That’s not who he is. Maybe you’re looking at more of a Greg Oden-type once he bulks up. He’s definitely similar to him.”

Taylor Mulling Options; FDU Lands Duo; Rutgers to Hire Eric Murdock

By Adam Zagoria on June 17, 2010, 8:45AM

Monmouth transfer Travis Taylor has taken two visits so far.

He saw Seton Hall last Saturday and Boston College last Sunday and Monday. The 6-foot-7 Taylor is scheduled to visit Temple on Sunday and Monday.

“Right now that’s all the visits the Taylors have set up,” said Bill Diamond, Taylor’s mentor.

“I will sit down with Travis and his parents next week after the Temple visit and get a feel if they would like to utilize the remaining three visits (Seton Hall was an unofficial). Tennesse, Clemson and Fordham have expressed an interest to me and are under consideration. We wanted to wait until the Temple visit before we sat down and met again, so we can compare the three visits he’s taken. This is an extremely important decision for Travis and he and his parents want to explore all of their options and do their homework and research before making a well thought out and informed decision.” (more…)

Coaching Carousel Running Wild: Purnell to DePaul, Donahue to Boston College

By Adam Zagoria on April 06, 2010, 12:05PM

INDIANAPOLIS – The men’s college basketball season is officially over, but the Coaching Carousel is running wild. Here are the highlights:

**Former Clemson coach Oliver Purnell (pictured) has agreed to a seven-year deal to take over DePaul. The Blue Demons have gone 1-35 in Big East play over the last two years.

**Steve Donahue is moving to Boston College from Cornell. Donahue, who did not immediately answer a text message, will be introduced at a Wednesday news conference.

**Tony Chiles will join Steve Lavin’s staff at St. John’s, a Drexel official confirmed to me.

**Manhattan coach Barry “Slice” Rohrssen told Lavin he would not join the staff, a source said.

**Dan Hurley will be introduced as the new Wagner coach at a Wednesday presser. St. Benedict’s Prep now begins a search to replace him. That is a highly coveted job and headmaster Father Edwin Leahy is already being overwhelmed by college assistants and high school coaches looking to succeed Hurley.

**Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim was named the Naismith Coach of the Year by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club.

Johnson to Clemson; Top Tweets from NBA Camp

By Adam Zagoria on June 19, 2009, 7:13PM

Noel Johnson, a 6-foot-7 small forward who initially signed with USC, has decided to play for Clemson.

Johnson, out of Fayetteville (GA) Fayette County, chose Clemson over LSU, UNLV and Florida International.

“When they sat me down on my visit, they showed me how much I can do for them,” Johnson told ESPN.com. “I know I can help them at the two, three and even the one.”

Clemson lost senior guard K.C. Rivers and sophomore guard Terrence Oglesby, who left to play in Europe.

Johnson left Southern Cal after the program came under scrutiny from the NCAA because of the O.J. Mayo scandal. Head coach Tim Floyd later stepped down.

“After that happened, I wanted to get out,” Johnson told ESPN.com.
