Maryland has officially welcomed standout USF shooting guard Selton Miguel. The announcement was made by the Terrapins on Friday.

“Selton is a highly competitive player who can really impact the game on both sides of the court,” Maryland head coach Kevin Willard said. “He’s another veteran player who can help us immediately and who has played in a lot of high-level games.”

Miguel is related to former Maryland star and current Atlanta Hawk Bruno Fernando. In two seasons with the Knights, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard averaged 12.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He was the AAC Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player last year.

Before his time at USF, Miguel played at Kansas State, where he appeared in 55 games and averaged 7.2 points. Overall, his college career boasts 1,189 points, 393 rebounds, and 273 assists across 118 games.

Miguel was born Luanda, Angola, and moved to Portugal when he was 13. He then moved to the United States during the ninth grade. Miguel speaks several languages including Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English. He’s also represented the Angolan National Team.

Maryland’s recent recruitment spree also includes transfers Rodney Rice from Virginia Tech, Ja’Kobi Gillespie from Belmont, and the addition of two freshmen, five-star center Derik Queen and guard Malachi Palmer.
