Following a breakout 2026 summer during which he increased his national visibility while subsquently blossoming into one of the more promising young recruits in the 2029 class, Chelsea HS (MI) guard Drew Cabana has drawn recent offers from Creighton and Purdue.
He’s steadily registered his imprint as a high level shooter with an advanced skill set as a bigger combination guard at 6-foot-5.
Cabana is slated for an unofficial visit to Michigan State on Sept. 4th.
The Michigan native is stoked about the opportunity, as he looks forward to watching the Spartans home-opening football game against Toledo as part of the visit.
Beyond Creighton and Purdue, Cabana has attained offers from Rutgers, Ohio, and Bowling Green.
Cabana, who averaged 21.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and three assists as a freshman last season, has also heard from a steady crop of high majors throughout his rapid summer climb.
“Schools I have heard from who are now showing interest are Iowa, Indiana, Michigan State, and Toledo,” said Cabana, who is coached by his mother, Chelsea head coach Andrea Cabana.
“I think playing with Indiana Elite was a great fit for me. We just really know how to play together, myself and those guys. The coaching staff, they really trusted me. The Adidas events, the live period, all of this certainly helped with the process (of gaining more exposure).”
Cabana does not turn 16 until Oct. 12th.
While he is cognizant the recruitment process is still in the elementary stages, Cabana’s recent showing at CP3 camp in North Carolina has given Cabana sustained motivation.
Boasting a consistent outside stroke, spurring the open floor attack, and picking his spots while displaying the fluid mid range game and hard-finishing arsenal which continues in his development, Cabana was named in the Camp’s Top-20.
He turned in multiple games of 20 points, playing against incoming freshmen and sophomores.
Beyond his shooting touch and shot creation off the bounce, Cabana applied peskiness and a disruptive presence defensively.
He was able to guard both on and off the ball throughout the camp.
Instigating turnovers and converting them into transition leak-out buckets has become a finer point of Cabana’s hardwood trade. This was another aspect of his game which was evident as the camp wrapped up.
Cabana scored 10 points during the camp’s All Star game.
Cabana spoke with ZAGSBLOG about his relationship and vision with several of the programs recruiting him:
Cabana on Rutgers:
“They want to come down for a fall workout. My assistant coach at my high school, he runs fall workouts where its me and several other kids. (Rutgers) said they want to come down there just to be in touch and to see me workout. Coach Smoke (assistant coach Marlon Williamson), he just thinks I could really be a good fit there. I could really make an impact on the program.
Creighton: “Coach (Alan) Huss, he likes big long guards who can shoot the ball. I just think I fit that criteria a lot. I think the style of play at Creighton and the role guards have in the Big East, it would suit me.”
Purdue: “I see myself as a one or a two there. Coach (Matt) Painter, he thinks I can really shoot the ball. He also said he really likes how I get to the rim, too. Hopefully I grow a little bit. That would definitely play into the process.”
Bowling Green: “I went down there for an Elite Camp. The coaching staff, they took me on a visit after. It was really a beautiful campus. After the tour of campus, they offered me right there on the spot. I liked what they had to say.”
