The top-ranked player out of New Mexico and a Top-75 caliber national recruit, Class of 2027 two-guard Brandon Mason Jr. has now committed to Xavier.
In the lanky 6-foot-7 Mason Jr., who is from Albuquerque, N.M. originally, Xavier head coach Richard Pitino is getting a high level scoring threat widely recognized for his shooting prowess.
Possessing significant elevation on his shot, Mason Jr.’s versatility, instinctive style, and knack for sticking difficult, highly contested shots was evident throughout his junior season at Albuquerque Prep.
He will spend his senior season at national power Link Academy Prep in Missouri.
Once a University of New Mexico ball boy, Mason Jr. chose Xavier over UNM, Boise State, Ohio, and Grand Canyon University.
“After a long talk with me and my family, and just a lot of nights of praying with God, I decided to take my talents to the University of Xavier,” Mason Jr. told Geoff Grammar of the Albuquerque Journal.
In raising his national stock, Mason Jr. turned in several noteworthy performances on elevated, exposure-heavy stages during his junior season.
Mason Jr. detonated for 33 points during Albuquerque Prep’s 97-91 loss to SEPA (FL). His ability to seize control of games as a refined, three level scoring source on which his team leans was also notable with Mason Jr.’s play on the prestigious Grind Session circuit.
He routinely scored 20 points or more while snaring seven rebounds or more, utilizing his length in a vast array of ways.
Mason Jr. authored a sublime showing with 35 points, seven blocks, six rebounds and four assists during a memorable performance at MADE Hoops event in Las Vegas last month.
