New Saint Mary’s head coach Mickey McConnell has landed his first high school commit of his tenure, with four-star point guard Darius Bivins committing to the Gaels on Monday.
Named a McDonald’s All-American this year, Bivins is a senior at Bishop O’Connell HS (VA) and chose Saint Mary’s over Rutgers, Seton Hall, Texas Tech and VCU.
Bivins took an official visit to Moraga on May 3rd and just eight days later, he’ll now become the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s history, surpassing Mikey Lewis, who was a star for the Gaels the last two seasons but later transferred to Texas.
In McConnell’s first offseason, the Gaels have landed five additions, with Bivins being the first high-school recruit.
In addition to Bivins, Saint Mary’s is also adding Miami (FL) transfer Salih Altuntas, UNLV transfer Myles Che, Syracuse transfer Luke Fennell and Louisville transfer Vangelis Zougris.
