New York, NY–After playing an instrumental role in helping propel New Heights to a 2027 3SSB championship, Class of 2027 guard Kamari Whyte was back on the fabled New York asphalt, scoring 26 points to catapult Zone 6 to a 67-59 victory over Gersh during the latest NY vs NY matchup.
The Harlem, NY native, who enters Blair Academy (NJ) with lofty aspirations after garnering Gatorade Vermont Player of the Year honors while playing a national schedule at Vermont Academy, has raised his profile considerably this summer. Now hearing from the likes of Marquette, Mississippi State, Villanova, VCU, Utah, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and others, Whyte will instantly inherit some ownership of Joe Mantegna’s team.
While 2026 graduation claimed one of the country’s most electrifying players in McDonald’s All American and current Duke guard Derron Rippey Jr., Whyte will replicate a system predicated on elite guard play with his leadership out of the backcourt.
He has significang help with fellow New Heights teammate and an evolving national stock riser in Kamsi Awaka, a 6-foot-10, catch and dunk threat with a menacing shot blocking presence.
At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Whyte has become a prolific scoring and hard attacking guard.
“The most polished part of my game is my downhill motor,” Whyte told ZAGSBLOG.
“I get there with ease. The most fun I get on the court is from drawing fouls and dunking the ball. My role next year, I see myself as scorer but more of a point guard.”
Leaning on a pull-up jumper and a number of at the rim finishes with either hand, Whyte scored 20 points in New Heights’ pulsating 66-64 victory over Mass Rivals in the 2026 3SSB title.
He displayed a likely harbinger of things to come during the 2026-27 season, as he controlled the offensive attack and fed cutters. Like the aforementioned Rippey Jr., Whyte will give the offense direction as a well built guard who defenders simply can’t surrender any space to.
