One of the country’s top guards is now off the board.
Link Academy (MO) guard Davion Thompson has now committed to Arkansas, delivering a heavily anticipated pledge to head coach John Calipari and the Razorbacks on the CBS Sports HQ Wednesday night.
“Coach Cal, he’s a great guy, he puts guys into the league,” Thompson said. “Why not go play for him?”
A 6-foot-2 left handed shot maker and adept play creator, Thompson chose the Razorbacks over Vanderbilt,, Baylor, and reigning 2026 national champions Michigan.
Alongside a fleet of highly touted recruits, including Tahj Ariza (Oregon), Trent Perry (Kansas), and Carlos Medlock Jr. (Michigan State), to name a few, Thompson helped catapult Link Academy to numerous significant wins on a national stage his junior season.
He is currently one of the top 3-point trigger men on the Nike EYBL circuit, as he’s shooting 52 percent on seven attempts per game with Chicago-based MeanStreets.
Thompson is currently averaging 21.7 points, 3.9 assists and 4.4 boards through the spring/summer swing.
Arkansas has been hot on Thompson’s trail for some time now. He visited back in late November, impressed with the coaching staff and the vast number of NBA Draft picks Calipari has helped nurture the development of.
“They let their guards play with freedom,” Thompson told ZAGSBLOG following the visit.
“They’ve got some wings who can really play and a good big man in (Trevon) Brazil. Darius Acuff played really well in the exhibition game I saw.”
