North Carolina transfer guard Jonathan Powell will officially stay in the ACC next season.
The 6-foot-6 product of Ohio has officially signed to play for Jeff Capel and Pittsburgh, after announcing his commitment to the program in early April.
Powell, a sophomore this past season, averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game for the Tar Heels, appearing in all of the team’s 33 games.
Prior to his lone season at North Carolina, Powell spent a season playing for Darian DeVries at West Virginia, which is also Pittsburgh’s biggest rival.
He averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Mountaineers during his freshman season, before transferring to North Carolina following DeVries’ departure to Indiana.
Powell is a part of Pittsburgh’s 13-man recruiting class as it enters next season coming off a disappointing one in Capel’s eighth season with the program.
In addition to Powell, the Panthers’ recruiting class consists of four-star Chase Foster, four-star Jermal Jones, BYU transfer Dominique Diomande, Alabama transfer Jalil Bethea, Syracuse transfer Naithan George, Georgia Tech transfer Baye Ndongo, Mercer transfer Armani Mighty, Gardner-Webb transfer Colin Hawkins, Charleston Southern transfer A’lahn Summer, Syracuse transfer Ibrahim Souare, Bryant transfer Timofei Rudovskii and Concord (D-II) transfer Kraig Gilbert.
