Nicolas Codie, the No. 1 player in Texas in the class of 2024, is looking to commit between late October and early November.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Newman Smith High School (TX.) has recently been in touch with Miami, Auburn, Houston, TCU, and Baylor the most.

“I’m going to commit before basketball season,” he said in an exclusive phone interview. “Probably like early November – late October.”

Codie visited TCU and Houston in June and broke down his options to ZAGSBLOG:

Houston: “Houston obviously they got a great campus,” he said. “They’re known for developing their 4-man just like me. Houston has a real good relationship ever since I first started talking to them. Me and coach [Kelvin] Sampson and their assistant coach we talk all the time, almost every day. I like Houston a lot.

“I’ve met some of the players, they real cool and they took me in like family,” he continued. “It’s a real family atmosphere. I can tell that I’m a priority for them, they show that, and I love that.”

TCU: “I love TCU and it’s close to home,” Codie said. “They always check up on me. TCU has a real good communication, they always making it known that I’m a priority for them, showing me how I fit in their system. It’s close to home so it’s a win-win.

Miami: “I’ve been talking to Miami probably for like 20 days,” he said. “I feel like we’ve built a great relationship. Ever since I’ve started talking to them I’ve seen that every one of my games. They’re always talking to me, telling me how to improve my game, giving me texts of encouragment”

“Obviously the program did real good last year with some players that made it to the draft,” Codie continued. “It’s in a real good city so I like Miami.”

Auburn: “I’ve been talking to Auburn for a while now,” Codie said. “I really like Auburn, good program. Jabari Smith went there, obviously a great player in the NBA right now. I see the way some of the people play there, they play real hard, so I really like Auburn.

Baylor: “That’s really the newest one,” he said. “I started talking to them when I was in South Carolina. They said they really love how I play hard… that’s the main thing that they like about me is that I don’t take days off.”

Codie has no more visits planned but will look to see some schools after his next live period in Las Vegas.

In terms of what he can bring to a college program, Codie mentions his leadership and versatility.

“I feel like I can bring leadership for sure,” he said. “I’m always talking on the court. Versatility, you could put me at a lot of positions I can guard. I can shoot the ball really well, I could add length so what’s I add strength it’ll be better for rebounds and all that.”
