Class of 2023 four-star guard Ty-Laur Johnson has committed to Memphis, he announced Saturday.

The 6-foot, 160-pound guard from Our Saviour (NY) Lutheran chose Memphis over Seton Hall and N.C. State. Andy Borman, who was the director of the NY Rens Nike EYBL program for whom Johnson played, is now an assistant at Memphis.

“It’s a great environment,” Johnson told ZAGSBLOG earlier this month. They’ve got a lot of experience in the program. Penny [Hardaway] was a vet in the NBA. I think he could teach me a lot.”

Ranked by On3Sports Composite as the No. 11 point guard and No. 67 overall prospect in the nation, Johnson joins four-stars Mikey Williams and JJ Taylor and three-stars Carl Cherenfant, Ryan Forrest and David Tubek in the No. 5-ranked recruiting class by 247Sports.com.

“I’m very fun to watch, a lot of energy,” Johnson said. “I think I’m the best passer in the league and I can score when I need to.”
