Amaree Abram, the No. 64-ranked prospect in the class of 2022, has committed to Ole Miss, he tells ZAGSBLOG.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard from Southern California (CA) Academy, chose Ole Miss over DePaul, Louisville, Maryland and St. John’s.

“The process was very long,” Abram said. “I really just took my time with it. I got to visit a couple schools. I feel like where Ole Miss stood out was with their coaching staff. It’s a great staff. They have a good group of guys. When I went on the visit, it just felt like home. The fans were good. They have a good support system. Everything falls in line there.”

After de-committing from Texas A&M in November, Abram took his official visit to Ole Miss from Dec. 3-5 for the Rebels’ Dec. 4 contest against Memphis.

“It was a crazy experience and the crowd went crazy. I got to meet some of the nutritionists and the athletic director,” he said. “They were just great people. It’s a great environment over there. After the game, I went to the restaurants and saw the support system, the fans coming up to the coach, telling him how great he was.”

Abram specifically noted the relationship between him and assistant coach Ronnie Hamilton as a key factor in his decision.

“He’s one of my guys,” Abram said. “I’ve just been building a relationship with him everyday, talking to him. He’s a big part of why I chose Ole Miss.”

He joins four-star center Malique Ewin, three-star shooting guard TJ Caldwell and his high school teammate Robert Cowherd as the fourth commit in Ole Miss’ 2022 recruiting class.

“(Robert) was always in my ear about it and telling me how good they were,” Abram said. “It’s just good having another teammate, someone I know, someone I trust, to be around.”

Ranked by 247Sports as the No. 12 point guard in the class of 2022, Abram describes himself as a leader who can get downhill, make plays for others and create for himself.

Abram had a standout performance on Friday night, the eve of his college decision, posting 38 points on 14-for-18 from the field and 10-for-13 from deep, while also adding 11 assists and eight rebounds.

“This year, I’ve gotten a lot better with my mindset, taking everything seriously, taking every game seriously and coming in with the same mindset every game,” Abram said. “Just growing up as a person and a basketball player has turned my game to a different level.”
