Class of 2021 forward Jamel King has committed to New Mexico, he tells ZAGSBLOG.

“I will be committing to New Mexico,” King said in a Zoom interview ahead of his public announcement.

The 6-foot-7, 180-pound small forward from Bella Vista Prep (AZ), chose New Mexico over Grand Canyon, UAB, Arkansas State and Alabama.

“I know the coaches well,” he said. “I felt like when me and coach talked, we had a bond from the jump. When I went on a visit with New Mexico, the campus and the stadium that they have, it was really exciting.”

According to 247Sports.com, King is ranked as the No. 27 small forward and No. 139 overall prospect in the Class of 2021.

“I like to shoot threes. I’m really athletic and I feel like I can score at will. I can score anytime I want. I can lock down on D and I like posterizing people too.

“They just told me, come in, work hard,” he said. “Everything is gonna be alright. I feel like I can come in and make a big impact. They need shooters and I feel like I’m one of the best shooters in the class of 2021, in my opinion.”

King is the first commit in the Lobos’ 2021 class.

“I’m going to try and get some guys to come and join me,” he said. “I think it’ll be very exciting.”
