Amid reports that he was a candidate for the vacant coaching job at Pittsburgh, Arizona coach Sean Miller says he’s out.
“I am not a candidate for the University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball head coaching vacancy,” Miller said in a statement. “I wish them well in their search for a new coach.”
Rhode Island coach Dan Hurleyis weighing offers from Pitt, UConn and Rhode Island but has yet to announce his decision.
Miller, who played at Pitt from 1987-92, and Pittsburgh AD Heather Lyke reportedly had discussions about the position, which came vacant when Kevin Stallings was fired.
Miller, 49, is 274-74 with seven NCAA Tournament appearances at Arizona. The Wildcats lost to Buffalo in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 4 seed.
In a tumultuous season for Miller, ESPN reported he had been caught on a federal wiretap offering $100,000 for star freshman Deandre Ayton. Both Miller and Ayton denied the report.
