Virginia has dismissed redshirt junior forward Austin Nichols from the basketball program, the school announced.

Nichols, a Memphis transfer who became eligible this season, was previously suspended for the Cavaliers’ two preseason scrimmages and the season opener at UNCG on Nov. 11.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege,” head coach Tony Bennett said. “We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren’t met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence.”

Nichols played one game at UVA, tallying 11 points and three rebounds against St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 15. He sat out the 2015-16 season after transferring from Memphis.
