SUWANEE, Ga.- Team Penny is 9-0 since John Petty joined in mid-May. This is anything but a fluke.

The 6-foot-7 small forward from Huntsville (AL) J.O. Johnson was extremely productive here at the EYBL ATL, scoring 18 points per game which included a 22-point performance in a 91-89 win in front of a packed crowd against MOKAN Elite, which was named the game of the session.

“I feel like we have the best squad right now on the Nike EYBL,” Petty said. “We are going to go home, and work hard over the next month, and try to come back and win Peach Jam.”

After a 32-point performance in a win over the Alabama Challenge, Petty said that he currently has no visits set up, but that he will be looking at it in the future.

“I have nothing set up yet,” Petty said. “I am definitely planning on setting some up though. My mom and I will sit down and do that, but right now, I’m in no rush to do it.”

Petty insisted that despite the 247 Crystal Ball leaning 100 percent towards Kentucky, he doesn’t have a front runner.

“It would mean a lot to play there,” Petty said of Kentucky. “I talk to Coach [John] Calipari a lot, they’re not the front runner though. I don’t really have a school that is the front runner, it would definitely be great to play for him though.”

Alabama is considered the other top option for him, with head coach Avery Johnson making the in-state star a priority.

Petty said that while he hasn’t been hearing from schools recently himself, he expects it to pick back up in July.

“Recently, I haven’t been personally talking to any schools,” Petty said. “Around Peach Jam it should crank back up again.”

With Penny Hardaway currently helping to coach his namesake Team Penny, that is an advantage in Petty’s mind.

“It’s a great experience having him around,” Petty said. “He tells us everything from an NBA standpoint. He tells us the way it is from the NBA perspective.”
