This is the time of year when any uncommitted player with skill sees their stock rise considerably.

While the basketball world awaits for Marques Bolden, Jarrett Allen and Taurean Thompson to make their college decisions, other uncommitted players are also busy deciding their futures.

Tyrell Gumbs-Frater, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard from Scarborough, Ontario and Spire Institute, is one of them.

“I didn’t really start cutting down my list yet,” Gumbs-Frater said by phone from Canada. “New schools are coming in and I don’t want to get down to the bottom of it and then a new one comes in and I have to change my mind. So I haven’t really cut my list down right now.”

For now, Gumbs-Frater will visit N.C. State next week.

“It should be around Wednesday or Thursday,” he said.

“I like their program. They have a really good program. Their coach talks to me a lot, we have a good relationship. I like the interest that they’re showing me. I don’t get the sense that they’re offering me just to have another body. I just like the energy they’re feeding off and I’m looking forward to the visit and see how things go.”

Gumbs-Frater is also considering a visit to UNLV.

“The UNLV coach [Marvin Menzies] said he wants me to go down there right away but he said he wants me to commit,” he said. “I don’t feel the need to commit right away, so that one can get done whenever.”

He’s also looking at Western Kentucky, “But we haven’t made an official date for that one yet.”

He said Wyoming has also reached out about a possible visit, while Indiana called him on Wednesday to touch base.

Gumbs-Frater also picked up an offer from new TCU coach Jamie Dixon on Wednesday. TCU also landed a pledge Wednesday from former UNLV commit Jaylen Fisher.

He has no timetable on a decision.

“I really don’t have a date,” he said. “I think the visits are one of the most important things for me making my decision.”

As for his skillset, Spire coach Bobby Bossman is high on Gumbs-Frater.

“He has the ability to score the ball in any way imaginable,” Bossman said. “He scores in bunches. He’s a strong kid with the frame to get much bigger.”

Said Gumbs-Frater: “I’m able to knock down big shots, make big shots, attack the rim, facilitate. Also bring up the ball. I see myself as a combo guard.”
