MillerButler announced that men’s basketball head coach Brandon Miller will take a leave of absence.

Assistant Chris Holtmann is the interim head coach.

“Brandon Miller has requested a leave of absence for medical reasons, which the University has granted,” Butler AD Barry Collier. “We are not in a position to further elaborate and we ask that everyone respect Brandon’s privacy.”

Holtmann joined Miller’s staff as an assistant coach last year after serving three seasons as head coach at Gardner-Webb University. In his final season at the North Carolina school, he guided the basketball program to a Division I school-record 21 victories and a berth in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament. He was named Big South Conference Coach of the Year and NABC District 3 Coach Of the Year.

Holtmann Tweeted: “Appreciative of all of the supportive thoughts in this time. Above all else our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and his family.”

Butler, heading into its second season in the Big Esat, officially begins men’s basketball practice on Saturday.
