BOSTON — Had the Knicks succumbed to a furious Boston Celtics rally in the fourth quarter here Friday night, Carmelo Anthony would’ve taken the blame.

Had the Knicks blown a 26-point lead and ended up having to play a Game 7 on Sunday, Anthony would’ve felt the heat.

On the streets, in the bars and on talk radio all across New York City.

And one can only imagine how much his reputation would have been further tarnished had the Knicks ended up making NBA history by blowing a 3-0 series lead and losing to the Celtics in seven.

In a move that should help them recruit the New York City area better as they make the transition to the ACC, Pittsburgh has brought back Barry “Slice” Rohrssen.

“We are extremely excited to bring Barry back to Pitt,” Panthers coach Jamie Dixon said. “From the start, Barry played an integral role in the success and building of our program. He has a great coaching background, is a good recruiter and has an exceptional understanding of how we operate our program.”

Rohrssen — who replaces Pat Sandle — recruited  Chris Taft, Levance Fields, Ronald Ramon and Keith Benjamin to the Panthers and maintains a strong reputation with AAU and high school coaches in the city and surrounding areas.

BOSTON — Knicks sharpshooter Steve Novak is inactive for Game 6 with back spasms, and could potentially miss a Game 7 on Sunday as well.

“I just think [his back] went out, locked up on him [in Game 5],” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. “He couldn’t come back after the halftime, so we’ve got to move on.”

As for Novak potentially playing Sunday at Madison Square Garden, Woodson said, “He’s day-to-day.”

The Knicks could opt to use 28-year-old rookie Chris Copeland off the bench in Novak’s place but he has yet to score a point in the series.

Iona College is less than 60 miles from Rutgers University, and the former now stands to benefit tremendously from what recently transpired at the latter.

With five Rutgers players transferring following the Mike Rice firing, Iona could end up landing two of them — or 40 percent.

Junior wing Mike Poole has already declared his intentions to play for Iona coach Tim Cluess, and sophomore big man Derrick Randall of The Bronx will visit the Iona campus Saturday.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Only two members of the Knicks own NBA championship rings.

And one of those players believes that despite losing two straight postseason games, the Knicks are still poised to make a deep postseason run.

“I came here with one goal in mind, and that’s to take the Knicks back to the promised land and I feel like we have the team to do so this year and I think it’s essential that we do it,” Tyson Chandler, who won an NBA championship with Knicks teammates Jason Kidd in Dallas in 2011, said Thursday ahead of tonight’s Game 6 in Boston.

“You don’t have these opportunities too many times in your career where you have an actual team that can make a real run and it’s our turn to make a run.”
