  • Hofstra has landed high-scoring guard Iverson Fleming of North Brunswick (N.J.) High School.

Fleming has scored at least 20 points five times this year, including a 33-point outing against South Brunswick. He also put 29 on Woodbridge.

The 6-foot-1, 158-pound Fleming chose Hofstra over LIU and Caldwell College and interest from Sacred Heart.

“I picked Hofstra because the coaching staff made me feel welcome the first time I stepped foot on campus,” he told SNY.tv. “I got a warm reception from the coaching staff. And from what I understand they have an excellent basketball program as well as academics.

With a depleted frontcourt, Knicks coach Mike Woodson hopes Amar’e Stoudemire will make his season debut New Year’s Day against the Portland Trail Blazers.

In the wake of Friday night’s 106-105 loss to the Sacramento Kings, Woodson told reporters his plan was to have Stoudemire practice twice before the Portland game.

“Those two practices will give us some indication of where he is,” Woodson said, according to the New York Times. “I’m going to put him through a full practice in terms of running up and down and banging some with him, too. Hopefully, there will be no setbacks, and he’ll be ready to go New Year’s Day.”

Carmelo Anthony will sit out tonight’s Knicks’ road game at Sacramento with a hyper-extended knee and is targeting a return on New Year’s Day.

“It feels much better than it did yesterday,” Anthony, the NBA’s second-leading scorer, told reporters in Sacramento, according to the New York Times. “Today I’m walking much better.”

Anthony injured the knee on Christmas Day against the Lakers when Marcus Camby collided with him while driving to the basket in the second quarter.

Anthony conceded that he remained in the game because of the high-profile nature of the nationally-televised contest. He finished with 34 points.

One day after a CBSSports.com report said Kentucky coach John Calipari was not on the short list to become the next Nets coach, Calipari ruled himself out.

“I’ve got a great job at Kentucky and I have no interest in any other job,” Calipari told reporters Friday, according to Chip Miller. “I love my job”

Calipari coached the New Jersey Nets from 1996-99 and his name comes up often when NBA jobs open. He has close ties to Nets minority owner Jay-Z, who visited the Kentucky players in the locker room at the Prudential Center in 2011 following their Elite Eight victory over North Carolina, as well as Nets CEO Brett Yormark.

PHILADELPHIA — A pair of ACC-bound prospects had big performances in the first night of the FamJuice Kobe Bryant Classic, held at Bryant Gymnasium in Lower Merion.

Miles Overton, going to Wake Forest next year, had 30 points for St. Joseph’s Prep in the Hawks’ 91-68 victory over Plymouth-Whitemarsh Thursday; that performance was followed up by Syracuse-bound B.J. Johnson going for 25 in Lower Merion’s 73-62 win over St. Frances (Md.).

Overton, the son of former NBA, is a 6-3 guard with a good shot and an ability to get into the lane; one impressive dunk in the first half drew one of the largest cheers of the night. Part of a deadly one-two combination on the Hawks that includes Notre Dame-bound wing Steve Vasturia, he picked Wake Forest over offers from St. Joseph’s and Temple, among others.
