  • Rutgers is now officially headed to the Big Ten Conference, but Rutgers and Seton Hall could still play an annual tilt in New Jersey after the Scarlet Knights depart in 2014.

“No question. It’s a state rivalry, the fans enjoy it, it has tradition to it. I’d love to continue that,” Rutgers coach Mike Rice told Jerry Carino of Gannett New Jersey. “We’ll talk between both athletic departments and coaches to figure it out. I’d like to get the same date every year and switch (the site) back and forth so there’s no haggling about the date or the place.”

BROOKLYN — Knicks GM Glen Grunwald and assistant GM Allan Houston were among the nearly 50 NBA scouts at the Barclays Center Monday to watch the Legends Classic.

The event features a slew of potential first-round draft picks in 2013, including potential No. 1 overall picks Cody Zeller of Indiana, a 7-foot sophomore forward, and Shabazz Muhammad, a 6-6 freshman small forward of UCLA.

After having no first-round pick in 2012, the Knicks own one in 2013, but they don’t have a second-round pick.

BROOKLYN — When Shabazz Muhammad was cleared by the NCAA of amateurism violations last Friday, the organizers of the Legends Classic caught a major break.

The 6-foot-6 UCLA small forward would make his much-anticipated collegiate debut here — in Jay-Z’s borough– against Georgetown, with a possible heavyweight showdown against No. 1 Indiana coming in the final.

Ideally, that would have meant a meeting between Muhammad and Indiana sophomore center Cody Zeller — both of whom are considered potential No. 1 picks in the 2013 NBA Draft.

But, alas, it was not to be.

BROOKLYN — Most of the hype leading up to Monday’s second Legends Classic semifinal between No. 11 UCLA and Georgetown surrounded the homecoming of Kyle Anderson and the college debut of Shabazz Muhammad.

But Georgetown’s own stellar trio made sure the hype afterwards was about them.

Junior guard Markel Starks had a breakout game with a career-high 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting and 6-foot-8 sophomore forward Otto Porter came back from a one-game absence to contribute 18 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and five assists as the unranked Hoyas surprised the Bruins, 78-70, in front of a pro-Georgetown crowd at Barclays Center.

Sophomore forward Greg Whittington added 13 points for Georgetown, which advances to an intriguing Legends Classic final against No. 1 Indiana, which outlasted Georgia in Monday’s other semifinal, 66-53.

BROOKLYN –Jordan Hulls is generously listed at 6-feet, but if you ask Indiana coach Tom Crean, Hulls can play in the NBA.

After Hulls put up 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in No. 1 Indiana’s 66-53 victory over Georgia here in the Legends Classic before nearly 50 NBA scouts, Crean was singing Hulls’ praises.

“With the number of NBA people here, Jordan Hulls is an NBA guard,” Crean said.

BROOKLYN –– With nearly 50 NBA scouts and personnel at Barclays Center on Monday evening for the Legends Classic, including Knicks General Manager Glen Grunwald and Assistant General Manager Allan Houston, Indiana University sophomore 7-footer Cody Zeller, the consensus Preseason National Player of the Year, didn’t exactly give them much to write home about.

Zeller, who has been tabbed as a top 3 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft should he declare, finished with six points on 2-for-4 shooting, four rebounds and four turnovers as No. 1 Indiana ran away in the second half from a feisty Georgia team, 66-53.

Brooklyn Lincoln junior guard Isaiah Whitehead went off for 45 points Sunday in a scrimmage against Cardozo.

“It was great,” Whitehead told SNY.tv “They were playing very aggressive defense and I just outplayed them and my jump shot has gotten way better.”

Said Cardozo coach Ron Naclerio: “You can see he has really worked to improve all facets of his game. He has superior confidence in his long 3 and has an NBA pullup. He will willingly give it up and get the assist.
