    Huntington (W.V.) Prep shooting guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes on Saturday committed to Florida State, the alma mater of his father, choosing the Seminoles over Illinois and UConn.

    “In the end with Florida State I just felt it was a family atmosphere,” the Canadian said on CIA Bounce TV. “Coach [Leonard] Hamilton is a great guy and their coaching staff, I just felt really welcome to the program. I feel like I can go there and make an immediate impact in the best conference in America.”

    The 6-foot-4 Rathan Mayes averaged 14.6 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds a game while shooting 44 percent from 3-point range as a junior.

    Articles, Kyle Anderson, UCLA

    Kyle Anderson Sr., the father of UCLA freshman guard Kyle Anderson, and NBA agent Thad Foucher have a preexisting relationship that dates back about a decade, sources told SNY.tv.

    Anderson Sr. has known Foucher since the early 2000s through the AAU circuit, and Foucher met the son, known as “Lil Kyle,” when he was a youngster through his father. Before becoming an agent with the Wasserman Media Group, Foucher served as head coach of the New Orleans Jazz AAU Team from 1990-1998, according to his Wasserman bio.

    The L.A. Times reported Saturday that the NCAA’s investigation into the 6-foot-9 Anderson and 6-5 wing Shabazz Muhammad is ongoing. In Anderson’s case, the NCAA is looking into the connection between him and Foucher, who now reps Anthony Davis, among others, and works with Arn Tellem. Casey Wasserman is a UCLA graduate and well-known Bruins booster.

    Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson said he paid for Texas guard Myck Kabongo to come to Cleveland earlier this year  to work out with a trainer — and was reimbursed by Kabongo’s brother.

    Thompson and Kabongo have been friends since their childhood days in Toronto and played together at St. Benedict’s Prep and Findlay Prep, as I covered in this story a few years back from Rivals.

    “Did I pay for him? Well, yes and no,” Thompson said, according to The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer. “You know, I actually had to pay for it and then had his brother reimburse me, which is totally fine with the NCAA. We discussed that. Again, we want to respect the process. I think everything’s going to work out. I don’t see no eligibility issues, but that’s for the NCAA to work out.”

    St. John’s and Wagner combined to get three of the top six plays on the SportsCenter  Top 10 Friday night — all on dunks — but Mizzou’s Keion Bell took the No. 1 spot with the above dunk over six people courtesy WMOUSports.

    Wagner senior Josh Thompson came in at No. 2 with this  dunk over two people — his parents, Josh and Diane.

    Thompson does clip his dad a little off the head as he tries to stick the landing, but, still, this is one of the most creative dunks you’ll ever see.

    Knicks

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Amar’e Stoudemire remains questionable for Saturday’s game against the Boston Celtics in Hartford after banging knees on Wednesday with teammate Chris Copeland.

    “Yeah, [Saturday] is questionable,” Stoudemire said Friday, one day after he sat out the Knicks 108-101 victory over the Wizards in Washington.

    “I still want to see how it feels [Saturday]. We’re taking a precautionary rout so making sure everything is 100 percent. Bone bruise is never a fun thing and it takes a while for it to heal.”

    Stoudemire wore a sleeve on his left knee as he shot the ball and did walk-through stuff Friday, but did not practice.

    Articles, Huntington Prep, Recruiting

    While many high school basketball players will take visits for Midnight Madness, Xavier Rathan-Mayes will actually make his college choice.

    The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Huntington (W.V.) Prep is expected to announce Saturday at 9 p.m. on CIA Bounce TV for either Florida State, Illinois or UConn.

    “Xavier is making his announcement on the 13th back up in Canada,” Huntington coach Rob Fulford told SNY.tv this week.

    Rathan-Mayes visited Florida State, the alma mater of his parents, and Illinois, but never tripped to UConn.
