    • Old Knicks

    While the Knicks pursue Steve Nash as their point guard of the future, it is possible they could lose both Jeremy Lin and Landry Fields to free agency.

    As has been widely reported, Lin will meet Wednesday with the Houston Rockets and Fields has been extended a $20-million offer sheet from the Toronto Raptors.

    Houston cut Lin in December, paving the way for his acquisition by Knicks GM Glen Grunwald and the eventual rise of Linsanity. Like other teams, the Rockets can offer him a back-loaded, “poison pill” four-year contract worth as much as $40 million. Such a deal could balloon to $10 or $15 million per year in the third and fourth years of the deal.

    Articles, Brooklyn Nets

     

    The Nets still don’t know if Dwight Howard will be on their roster next season, but this piece of good news is in.

    Adam Morrison and his hair have made Brooklyn’s summer league roster.

    Joining Morrison on the Nets summer league roster are MarShon Brooks (assuming he’s not dealt to the Orlando Magic for Howard); former Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor, whom the Nets obtained in the recent NBA Draft; former Pittsburgh guard Ashton Gibbs; former NBA player Al Thornton; and former Siena guard Edwin Ubiles.

    The Nets will play in the AirTran Airways Pro Summer League, which will be held at the Amway Center practice facility in Orlando July 9-13.

    “I understand that I’m never going to shake being a bust or being a failure in some people’s eyes, but I’ve experienced a lot of highs in basketball,” Morrison, who turns 28 July 19, told reporters at the NEts free-agent mini-camp in May. “So I guess you can call it a hardship but it’s really not. I get to play basketball for money and it’s pretty good.”

    Philadelphia 76ers rookie Moe Harkless was approached by the Puerto Rico Basketball Federation about playing in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela, but has declined in order to focus on his NBA commitments.

    “We sat with the organization and are open to exploring Maurice Jose Harkless possibly playing in the future,” Harkless’ mentor, Nate Blue, told SNY.tv. “But with the NBA Draft process and summer league, we knew it was wise to sit this one out. We will explore both Team USA and Team Puerto Rico in the near future.”

    Transfers

    Khalil Murphy, a 6-foot-7 forward from Willingboro, N.J., has opted to transfer to Long Island University from San Francisco.

    Murphy also considered Central Connecticut.

    “I liked the team and the coaches right away,” Murphy told SNY.tv. “It’s back home. We won the [Northeast] Conference the last two years and I just see us getting better as a team in the future.”

    Old Knicks

    Because of his status as a restricted free agent,  Knicks guard Jeremy Lin has withdrawn from the 2012 USA Men’s Select Team that will train July 6-11 against the 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team during training camp in Las Vegas.

    Lin informed USA Basketball Monday afternoon that because of his current contract status he was withdrawing. Boston Celtics center Greg Stiemsma was forced to withdraw after undergoing a non-surgical process for Plantar Fasciitis.

    “Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to participate in the 2012 USA Men’s Select Team this summer,” said Lin. “It was such an incredible honor to be selected, but I have withdrawn my name from the team because of my status as a free agent. I hope to have the opportunity to participate with USA Basketball at some point in the future.”

    The Knicks control the rights to Lin and can match any offer for him, although ESPN.com recently reported that other teams, potentially the Toronto Raptors for one, could lure Lin with a poison pill contract that escalates to $10 or $15 million annually in his third and fourth seasons.

    What’s up, basketball world?

    This past week was a busy week for me. I started off each and every one of my days working out with St. Anthony’s strength and conditioning Coach, Omar Jones. We’ve been working on many different aspects of my game, explosiveness, quickness, footwork, and of course, strength.

    Other than being in the weight room, my high school team played in the Hamilton Park Summer League where we went 4-0 this week.

    Thursday I had the time to watch the NBA Draft and it was great to see many of those men have their dreams come true. I believe if I maintain my impeccable work ethic, I too will be hearing my name called some day.

    Jaren Sina, a talented 2013 point guard from Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernard’s, announced Monday night for Northwestern over Rutgers and Seton Hall.

    Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody and assistant Fred Hill have cultivated a long and successful relationship with the 6-foot-2 Sina, a former Alabama commit ranked the No. 23 point guard in the Class of 2013 by Rivals.com.

    “There was obviously location; it’s a great place,” Sina’s father Mergin, who coaches Gill St. Bernard’s, told ESPN.com after SNY.tv first reported the news.

    “Academically, it’s one of the top programs, and the kids can play at a high level. Coach Carmody and Hill and staff, we’ve been attracted to the way they played all year. It’s a similar style we play in high school. I think it’s a great transition for Jaren.”
