  • St. John’s assistant Mike Dunlap is among the candidates for the Charlotte Bobcats head coaching vacancy.

Patrick Ewing is also in the mix to replace Paul Silas in Charlotte. Former Knicks assistant Michael Malone is as well, the New York Post reported.

“Coach Dunlap’s being invited to interview for the head coaching position with the Charlotte Bobcats is a compliment to Mike and our program,” Johnnies coach Steve Lavin told SNY.tv. “I enthusiastically support Mike in the process. As a head coach, I encourage all of my assistants to become head coaches.”

The NCAA is looking into Kentucky signee Nerlens Noel, according to a report in Wednesday’s New York Times.

According to the story, NCAA investigators Cindi Merrill and Frank Smith went to Everett (Mass.) High School on Tuesday and met with principal Louis Baldi for more than an hour regarding “concerns we had as adults,” Baldi told the paper. The 6-foot-10 Noel, the No.1 prospect in the Class of 2012, spent his first two years of high school at Everett before transferring to The Tilton (N.H.) School.

“I didn’t get any sense,” Baldi told the paper. “It was a conversation, very collegial. That was really it. They didn’t ask me any investigative-type questions.”

I have no idea where Andrew Wiggins will end up going to college.

But I do know a few other things.

When I interviewed him earlier this year after he put up 19 points and 11 rebounds in Huntington Prep’s one-point loss to St. Anthony in the PrimeTime Shootout, he basically said that Kentucky and Florida State were his top two schools.

Kentucky is Kentucky and both of his parents attended Florida State. His dad is the former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and his mom is the former Canadian track star Marita Payne-Wiggins.

In case you haven’t seen him yet, the 6-foot-7 Wiggins may well be the best basketball prospect in North America, or as the venerable Tom Konchalski likes to say, “He might be the best young prospect in the Northern hemisphere.”

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – What if Jeremy Lin doesn’t suffer a slightly torn meniscus on March 24 and the Knicks have a viable option at point guard right now?

What if Iman Shumpert doesn’t tear his left ACL and meniscus after Game 1 against the Miami Heat?

What if Amar’e Stoudemire doesn’t pick a fight with a fire extinguisher after Game 2?

What if Baron Davis doesn’t blow out his knee, and possibly his career, during Game 4?

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Knicks fans shouldn’t expect the return of Linsanity on Wednesday.

Jeremy Lin is likely done for the season and won’t play in Game 5 Wednesday in Miami, interim head coach Mike Woodson said Tuesday.

“He’s out,” Woodson said. “Speaking with medical…Jeremy will not play in this series.”

Asked if Lin could play in a potential Game 7 Sunday if the series were extended that far, Woodson said, “I don’t think so.”

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Mike Woodson would love to return as the Knicks head coach next season, but the interim coach emphatically denied a report that he is in talks with management about a four -year contract extension.

“No, I have not. No, I have not. You guys write the articles,” Woodson said Tuesday prior to Game 5 against the Miami Heat Wednesday in Miami. “That’s not true, not at all.”

Asked if he had had general conversations with Knicks owner Jim Dolan about discussing a contract extension, Woodson reiterated, “Not at all, not at all.”
