  • Syracuse has elevated former star Gerry McNamara to the coaching staff while associate head coach Bernie Fine is on administrative leave, head coach Jim Boeheim announced Friday.

McNamara, who was a member of Syracuse’s 2003 NCAA Championship squad, was a four-year starter for the Orange. He is still the school’s career leader in three-point field goals and accumulated 2,099 points in his career. After pursuing a professional basketball career, McNamara returned to Syracuse to begin work on a master’s degree in 2009. He has served as a graduate manager with the basketball program.

In the meantime, Fine issued a statement regarding the accusations of sexual molestation against two former Syracuse ball boys.

With the NCAA early signing period now over, Kentucky head coach John Calipari was able to comment on his three signees.

Kentucky landed Kansas center Willie Cauley, Arkansas shooting guard Archie Goodwin and Tennessee forward Alex Poythress. That class is currently ranked No. 2 by several national recruiting services.

Kentucky has had the No. 1 overall class three years running before getting usurped by Arizona this year.

The 7-foot Cauley is a senior at Olathe (Kansas) Northwest High School where he averaged 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds last season. He also stars on the football field, catching 57 passes for 1,140 yards and 14 touchdowns through nine games in 2011 as a wide receiver.

“At 7-feet tall, Willie has great feet and great hands,” Calipari said. “He’s a wide receiver on the football team. When he starts zeroing in on this sport, I think people are going to be surprised at how good he really is. He’s got his best basketball ahead of him.”

NEW YORK — A few short weeks ago, Kevin Parrom couldn’t be sure he would ever play basketball again.

Much less compete on the big stage of Madison Square Garden.

Yet with 17:42 remaining in the first half of Arizona’s game against St. John’s in the 2K Sports Classic, the Bronx native entered the game to a warm and resounding cheer from the 9,036 fans on hand.

“It felt great,” Parrom said after contributing 6 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds in Arizona’s 81-72 victory that propelled them into Friday’s final against Mississippi State. “It was a great feeling and it was good to be back home.”

Syracuse University has placed associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine on administrative leave in light of child molestation charges that first appeared in a story on ESPN.com.

“In light of the new allegations and the Syracuse City Police investigation, this evening Chancellor Cantor asked Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross, to place Associate Head Coach Bernie Fine on administrative leave,” read a statement from the school.

According to ESPN.com, Syracuse police are investigating allegations that Fine molested two team ball boys beginning in the late 1970s and continuing until the 1990s.

Bobby Davis, now 39, told ESPN’s Mark Schwarz that Fine molested him for more than a dozen years “hundreds of times” beginning in the mid-1980s.

NEW YORK — St. John’s may well add 6-foot-7 wing Amir Garrett at the semester break in December, his prep school coach told SNY.tv.

“He is carefully following through the proper NCAA guidelines under somewhat unique circumstances to reach his goal of being a member of the St. John’s University basketball team sooner rather than later,” Bridgton (Maine) Academy coach Whit Lesure said by text.

Asked if Garrett could be eligible in December, Lesure added, “It certainly seems likely from my view. Yes.”

The NCAA early signing period came and went and Andrew White says he remains undecided and unsigned.

“I have not signed,” he told SNY.tv by phone Thursday afternoon. “I have not decided.”

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound White said he’s still being courted by Richmond, George Mason, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, N.C. State, Texas and Kansas, among others.

“It’s still a pretty long list of schools,” added White, the Rivals No. 12 small forward out of Chester (Va.) Miller School
