Adam Zagoria covers basketball at all levels. He is the author of two books and an award-winning journalist whose articles have appeared in ESPN The Magazine, SLAM, Sheridan Hoops, Sports Illustrated, Basketball Times and in newspapers nationwide.
As part of his coaching duties at St. Benedict’s Prep, Scott Smith was in charge of scouting future opponents.
On one occasion while scouting Cardozo High School in Queens, Smith ran into one of his own players doing some research of his own.
“I went to Forest Hills to watch Cardozo and Forest Hills and Mike Poole would be there,” recalled Smith, who left St. Benedict’s when former head coach Dan Hurley departed for Wagner College.
“I would always see Mike Poole at every event. If we were playing Cardozo, he would watch Cardozo. He’s one of the most visible high school players you’ll see from New York City. He’s very passionate about the game.”

A veteran Ultimate Frisbee player, he has competed in numerous National and World Championships and, perhaps more importantly, his teams won the Westchester Summer League (WSL) championships in 2011 and 2013.
