  • Butler Players Won Gold With Pitt’s Dixon

    INDIANAPOLIS — With West Virginia’s loss to Duke in the national semifinals Saturday night, the Big East is officially done for the season.

    Yet when Butler (33-4) takes the floor Monday night in the NCAA championship game against the Blue Devils (34-5) at Lukas Oil Stadium, there will be a Big East connection.

    Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon led Butler’s Shelvin Mack and Gordon Hayward to the gold medal last summer at the FIBA Under-19 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.

    “Someone asked me, ‘What did you learn from the experience with the U19 team,'” Dixon said in a phone interview. “I learned not to play Butler.”
