  • D'Imperio Rebounds from Injury to Lead Defense

    NEWPORT, R.I. — It was Easter Week of 2007 and Ryan D’Imperio was laid up in a hospital bed when Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano came in to console him.

    Schiano was down in the dumps because one of his best linebacker’s had just snapped his leg in three places — “It was nasty, really bad,” the coach said — during a spring practice.

    “Coach, I’ll be fine. I’ll be back. I’ll get out of here and I’ll rehab. I’ll be back before you know it,” D’Imperio calmly told the coach from his hospital bed.

    A distraught Schiano couldn’t quite believe what he was hearing.
