    Durand Scott, a 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Rice High School in Manhattan, has cut his list to five schools, and it’s not the list incorrectly circulating on the Internet.

    “As of now, my top five are Pitt, Miami, Tennessee, UConn and UCLA,” Scott wrote Monday morning in a text message. He eliminated Virginia and Xavier.

    In the meantime, Scott will take an official visit this weekend to UConn. Huskies head coach Jim Calhoun and assistant Andre LaFleur came to Rice two weeks ago and put the fullcourt press on him.

    Georgetown, UMass

    Freddie Riley, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military Academy, has UMass at the top of his list but is also considering South Florida, Virginia Commonwealth and Baylor.

    “He had a very good visit to UMass” the weekend of Sept. 12, Hargrave coach Kevin Keatts said. “Obviously, I think they’re at the top of his list. He’s going to take a visit to South Florida (Oct. 4) and he may take a visit to VCU this weekend. He may also take a visit to Baylor which has not been set.”

    Riley, a native of Ocala, Fla., is a scoring guard who would add automatic offense to whichever school he picks.

    How bad are things at Rutgers?

    Not only did Rutgers lose to Navy 23-21 on Saturday to drop to 0-3, but QB Mike Teel took a swipe at one of his teammates.

    In a lowlight that is being played over and over on ESPN, Teel slapped teammate Glen Lee in the head late in the game when Lee was trying to get Teel off the field after the QB threw an interception.

    “I know there was an episode there at the end with Glen Lee and Mike, and I tell our guys all the time it’s family business. You keep it inside the family,” Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said, according to Keith Sargeant of the Home News Tribune. “But all I will say is everybody in that locker room understands Glen was trying to encourage him to come off the field and I think Mike was just so incredibly down about what just happened that he snapped a little. Guys have forgiven each other and we moved on.”

    Dominic Cheek, La Salle, Syracuse, Virginia

    Dominic Cheek opted to skip a visit to Tennessee this weekend for the Florida football game, and instead will participate in the Gym Rat Midnight Madness event in his home state of New Jersey. The event on Saturday also includes La Salle commit Aaric Murray, Syracuse-bound Dion Waiters and Villanova commit Maalik Wayns.
