Jackson State, one of America’s most historic HBCUs, has hired 14-year NBA veteran and current ESPN Analyst Kendrick Perkins to be its general manager, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Friday.
Perkins, who an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008, will also be involved with the school’s broadcasting and journalism programs.
He’s been on staff at ESPN since October 2019 and will serve as the Tigers’ first general manager in program history.
Perkins joins a recent trend in today’s era of NIL and revenue share, where former and current NBA players have begun getting hired to serve as general managers for programs around the country.
He joins a list of former and current players that includes Stephen Curry (Davidson), Trae Young (Oklahoma), Terance Mann (Florida State), Damian Lillard (Weber State), Shaquille O’Neal (Sacramento State) and Pat Garrity (Notre Dame).
