Five-star Prolific Prep (FL) wing Malachi Jordan will begin an official visit to St. John’s on Friday and he and his father will be in attendance for the exhibition game with Texas on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The 6-foot-7 Jordan is ranked the No. 6 small forward in the 247Sports Composite.

He has already visited USC, Kansas, Vanderbilt and Tennessee but is excited to check out New York and St. John’s.

“They understand his game,” Gershom Jordan, Malachi’s father, said of St. John’s. “They understand his strengths and they understand areas he needs to improve. [Rick] Pitino hangs his hat on development. He knows what he can do with a talented kid like Malachi if he buys in to what they do. There’s no doubt he can get the best out of Malachi daily and ultimately make him the best basketball player he can be. They know, if they can get the most out of his skill, stature, athleticism, ability, etc. a ton of SPECIAL things will happen.

“As a father, that’s all you really want. A coach who understands his talent/potential and is willing and able to relentlessly pursue the best version of your child. And someone who has done it with kids like him before.”

Pitino has expressed a desire to recruit a few select high school players in each recruiting cycle.

“We’ve been taking two or three [freshman] every year, we’ll take probably two or three year this year,” Pitino said last November before St. John’s ultimately added two freshmen, one from an American school and one from overseas.
