  • Indiana court injunction grants dozens of players additional college eligibility

A court in Indiana gave a preliminary injunction to nearly 100 players on Wednesday, making those players immediately eligible to return to college basketball.

This injunction is the latest example of the ongoing eligibility saga in college basketball, in which thousands of athletes that were originally members of the high school class of 2022 have received additional eligibility despite playing four full seasons in college already.

The slew of injunctions comes after US District Judge Charlotte Sweeney class-wide injunction in July 2026 blocking the NCAA from enforcing its new age-based “five-for-five” eligibility rules against the 2022 recruiting class.

Out of the nearly 100 players that were granted eligibility on Wednesday, the list was headlined by some of the top players across the power five last season.

    Miami’s Malik Reneau

    Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey

    Indiana’s Sam Alexis

    Kansas’ Tre White

    Santa Clara’s Elijah Mahi

    UCF’s Riley Kugel

    Wichita State’s Kenyon Giles

    Creighton’s Nik Graves

    Kansas’ Jayden Dawson

    Georgia’s Justin Abson

    Wisconsin’s Andrew Rohde

Notably, LSU is a program that is banking on these injunctions more than potentially every other program in the country.

Head coach Will Wade has put emphasis on recruiting former professionals this offseason, which has left the Tigers in situation where the majority of their roster is currently ineligible.

With many players announcing their intentions to play at LSU over the summer, the Tigers have just four players officially on their roster due to ongoing eligibility disputes with the remainder of their recruits. This is as most programs around the country began training camp this week, as there’s less than 40 days until the first game of the college basketball season.

Should these nearly 100 players return to their original schools or play elsewhere this season, the ongoing eligibility saga in which most players automatically receive a fifth year of eligibility has set a new precedent in college basketball.
