Northern Kentucky transfer LJ Wells has officially signed with Louisville.
Wells, a 6-foot-8 forward from Wisconsin, is seeking a fifth year of eligibility after spending four seasons with the Norse and appearing in 122 total games.
“Northern Kentucky coach Darrin Horn and I are friends and I have an unbelievable amount of respect for him as a coach,” Louisville coach Pat Kelsey said in a statement. “He gushes about LJ in terms of his character, work ethic, coachability and team first mentality. He also speaks glowingly of him as a player, especially his ability to process complex basketball concepts on both sides of the ball. He was arguably NKU’s best and most valuable player. We are excited to add someone like LJ that fits our culture perfectly. He’s one of us before he even arrives.”
In his fourth and final season at Northern Kentucky, Wells was a mainstay in the starting lineup, starting 33 games and averaging 15.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and shooting over 55% from the field.
Wells is set to join a Cardinals program that had one of the most expensive transfer portal classes in the country this past spring, becoming the team’s eighth total addition from the transfer portal.
In addition to the eight transfer, Pat Kelsey’s squad also welcomed three high-school recruits, bringing the total number of additions to eleven.
The list of the other additions includes five-star center Obinna Ekezie Jr., four-star forward Boyuan Zhang, three-star guard Isaac Ellis, Kansas transfer Flory Bidunga, North Carolina transfer Seth Trimble, USC transfer Gabe Dynes, Dayton transfer De’Shayne Montgomery, Iowa transfer Alvaro Folgueiras, Arkansas transfer Karter Knox and Oregon transfer Jackson Shelstad.
