Five-star guard NaVorro Bowman Jr., the son of former 49ers standout linebacker NaVorro Bowman, committed to UConn on Thursday, ESPN first reported.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard from Sherman Oaks (CA) Notre Dame is ranked the No. 2 combo guard in the Class of 2027, per 247Sports.com.

Bowman was a starter on the USA U17 team that won the FIBA World Cup in Turkey in July. He averaged 19.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game for Team Why Not (CA) during the 2026 Nike EYBL Peach Jam.

“He had his breakout performance back in January on ESPN2, scoring an efficient 36 points for Notre Dame High School against Sierra Canyon,” ESPN national recruiting director Paul Biancardi told ZAGSBLOG.

“This is a major coup for Danny Hurley and his staff. To go out West and land a five-star recruit shows the power of the program.

“As a scoring point guard, Bowman has become excellent over the last six months at manipulating defenses in ball-screen actions.

“Bowman is confident and effective scoring from anywhere on the court. When he creates an advantage he is quick to make a solid decision to score or to find the open man.

“Bowman finished fourth in the EYBL in scoring, averaging 20.9 points per game while shooting a respectable 47.4% from two-point range. His three point shooting percentages can fluctuate because of his high volume of attempts.

“At the Adidas ABCD Camp in August, he was named the camp’s MVP.

“With his dad playing football at Penn State, being a great NFL player and coaching in the NFL I am sure that pedigree was very attractive to Danny Hurley.

“Bowman expects to win and is disappointed when he loses. He can handle hard coaching and someone UConn can build a recruiting class around.”

As a result of the Bowman commitment, five-star Spire Academy (OH) guards Micah Gordon and King Gibson, as well as five-star Cayden Daughtry of Calvary Christian (FL), all cancelled their visits to UConn, per 247 and ZAGSBLOG sources..

Bowman is UConn’s first commit in 2027.

Five-star AZ Compass Prep wing DeMarcus Henry is also visiting UConn this weekend, per 247Sports, while 6-10 forward Kamsi Awaka will also visit, per Sam Kayser.
