Ed Cooley and Georgetown have landed a late-summer addition via the transfer portal from within the Big East.
The Hoyas landed a commitment from DePaul transfer forward NJ Benson, who spent two seasons with the Blue Demons.
Benson, who’s appeared 119 games at the collegiate level, also spent his first two seasons of his career playing at Missouri State before transferring to DePaul.
Beginning his college career in 2022, Benson’s statistics have slowly improved every year of his career, with the product of Mount Vernon, Illinois having a career-best season this past year, averaging 11.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
The addition of Benson will help Cooley and the Hoyas bolster their forwards depth, which currently includes just three other players (Austin Montgomery. Josiah Parker and Caleb Williams).
The Hoyas are entering the fourth season of the Cooley era and likely one if its most critical for the future of the program.
Bringing two years of Big East experience to Washington D.C. this season, Benson will likely cement himself as a key piece of Cooley’s plans next season.
